Abel Barroso | DOMINO GAME

Image of Abel Barroso | DOMINO GAME

4 x 11 x 3 inches | Hand carved wood sculpture, woodcut; domino dimensions vary

Box of dominoes with 54 pieces. The numbers are substituted by 10 flags. Through the use of a game, the pieces reflect on the subject of migration. Through the way dominoes are set up, the duality of flags and how differently they can be combined is explored. Each tile has two numbers in the original game. I have placed a different flag on each side so that different nationalities can interact. I selected the five countries that most emigrate to Europe: Morocco, Senegal, Syria, Afghanistan, Nigeria.

The 5 European countries that receive the most immigrants - Spain, Italy, Germany, UK and France. The 5 countries that most emigrate to Europe – Morrocco, Senegal, Syria, Afghanistan, Nigeria. Europe has been one of the continents from where the largest migrations to the American continent have originated, enriching the entire region.

Born in Pinar del Río, Cuba in 1971, artist and curator Abel Barroso studied art at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (1990) and Instituto Superior de Arte (1995).
