FROM THE ARTIST
This painting is titled “Dandelion” after a line from a Julie Lechevsky poem by the same title. The poem touches on themes of resilience through the metaphor of the dandelion. The poem also explores the idea of transformation and freedom which I feel is often an expressed ethos of skateboarders. The poem speaks of a wish to grow and transform like the dandelion, from “gold to thin white hair,” and be carried away by the wind in order to escape societal expectations and constraints. I gave nods to the poem in the yellow used in the background and small stamped marks of dandelions in the elements of quiet conversation throughout the painting.

ABOUT MEGAN JAFFE

Megan Jaffe’s work is poetry, literally and figuratively. Entirely self-taught, her technical ability is hard earned over years of dedication to her practice. What stands out the most in each piece is the emotional depth and connection reflected in her subjects. Her advanced degree in literature and her love of poetry are the conceptual underpinnings, often inspired by forgotten narratives within American history and poetry which she collages from books and newspapers. For Jaffe, the hidden elements within her paintings are aligned with the depth and sacred nature of life and all the perspectives one image or phrase can inspire.

Jaffe lives and works in Carlsbad, California, and has exhibited her work in exhibitions in the US and Europe.
