ABOUT ANDREA WELTON
Andrea Welton is a painter in constant communication with the natural world. Her creative process begins with immersion, hiking, camping, and taking long drives, during which she collects visual and tactile materials. She will also look for artist residencies that feature opportunities to travel to various spectacular sites enabling her to live for weeks at a time out in nature. Her studio is part apothecary with jars of flowers, seeds, rocks, and various soils from the landscapes she has studied. These pieces of experience are then interpreted and transformed into lush abstracts that reference a broader relationship with land from many vantage points. Her technique incorporates the archival use of minerals, soil, high pigment inks, and the meticulously cataloged seeds and rocks from her collection.
Welton lives and works in Claremont, CA. She received her BFA from Art Center College of Design and her MFA from UC Irvine and has shown her work internationally and throughout Southern California.
