ABOUT BALDEMAR FIERRO
Baldemar Fierro has been traveling the world, honing his craft for over 20 years. Falling in love with analog at the Orange Coast College School of Photography, Fierro uses large and medium format cameras exclusively, choosing traditional darkroom development techniques over digital to involve himself in the time/effort needed to bring a composition to life. Fierro further expresses his craft through dedication to place. The locations he chooses and the subjects that catch his eye seek to affirm the magic and emotion found where human activity and nature commune. This is not always a cheery perspective as he sets up his equipment in places as vastly different as the slums of Rio de Janeiro to the expansive view of the tide rising around Mont Saint-Michel, France. For those who possess his work, there is a trust that the artist’s feet were on the ground, his view unflinching and shared with no tricks or shortcuts. What you see is a painting created from available light and emulsion, presented as a window into a private yet expansive world.
Baldemar Fierro has made Southern California coastal towns his home, first Laguna Beach and now Capistrano Beach. He has shown at the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts and has been featured by the Laguna Art Museum as well as collected into prestigious public and private collections worldwide.
