ABOUT THE WORK

Created as part of the Marjorie and Joseph Rubenson Endowment for Art and Science at Volcan Mountain.

Stalks of Lupines and Chinese Houses dance before a Honey Bee visits a Blue Elder Shrub. Kumeyaay people use the bark of the Blue Elder to create clothing, and its yellow flowers are collected and dried for use as a fever reducer and cough medicine. Ko’alh-speaking people use cooked leaves as a compress.
